We will be holding officer elections soon for the 2019-2020 officer board!
Applications are now open, and will be accepted until March 8th.
Being a part of the BMES officer board is a wonderful opportunity to get involved with leadership and learn transferable soft skills, such as teamwork and event planning. By leading BMES, you can also give back to your community of bioengineers and help cultivate the next generation of engineers.
Please go here for the application and email your resume to our email at email@example.com. All majors are welcome!
We hope to see you soon!
Thanks for joining us last night at the Ten Ren Social after our meeting! We had several BMES members come out along with our officers and some of our friends from ASME.
Hope everyone had a fun time relaxing and getting to know each other. We hope to see you again at our next social!
Thank you to Abbott Laboratories for guiding us on a tour of the company. We hope all the attendees enjoyed getting to know what Abbott does, their history, and getting a view of their facilities and manufacturing line. Be sure to keep an eye out for updates on our next company tour next quarter!
Last Wednesday, we had several volunteers come out to Notre Dame High School to demonstrate what it's like being a student at UCR and a bioengineer. They also used demonstrations, like displaying an electromyogram's output while arm wrestling, to show real-life applications of bioengineering technology. Thank you to our volunteers for helping inspire the next generation of engineers!
If you're interested in volunteering for our future outreach events, keep an eye out for updates from us. We're also opening up volunter positions for the biggest outreach event of the year, Bioengineering Day! Click here for the form to apply.
Thank you to everyone who signed up to be a part of the mentorship program and showed up to the meet and greet dinner on Tuesday! We hope everyone enjoyed getting to talk with their mentor or mentee.
Don't forget to keep in touch with your mentor or mentee throughout the year, and remember to fulfill the meeting requirements!
A big shout out and thank you to our volunteers for helping us out in leading the students of Paakuma Middle School around campus to introduce them to the field of bioengineering! Throughout the morning, students got to see what it's like to be a college student and a student of BCOE, have a hands-on experience with bioengineered tools like an EMG or a brainwave-operated toy, walk through the senior design exhibition, and take a tour of UCR. We hope next year's Bioengineering Day will be an even greater success!
Thanks for joining BMES at the Castle Park Social last Thursday! Several members and officers came and had a great time playing mini golf together and bonding as the sun was setting. Keep an eye out for our future socials!
Last Friday, March 2nd, BMES hosted the annual BCOE Dodgeball tournament. With over 10 teams registered, organizations all over BCOE participate in this night of fun. A huge congratulations to IEEE for their first place finish!
On February 8, several BMES members were invited to tour Applied Medical, a leading medical device company. During the time spent at the facility, they were granted a tour of the laboratories and multiple product demonstrations. Our members were allowed a first look at the company's new and developing products. Following the tour, members were allowed a hands-on experience.
“The Applied Medical tour was a wonderful experience and really opened my eyes to the large scale in which medical device companies, like Applied Medical, cater to the world. Being just a student, it is easy to forget how important decisions made today impact those of tomorrow. Applied Medical was an extremely impressive company, and I hope to return one day” - Jaya Vengadesan, Professional Development Chair.
