On Wednesday, April 24th, 20 BMES members went to Edwards Lifesciences Irvine Headquarters and went on a tour of the facilities, had lunch on the campus, and interacted with Edwards employees as well as UCR alumni. At the facilities, the students got to observe their R&D, product development, and quality control departments. In addition, they were able to have a hands on experience with the biomaterial Edwards used to build their heart valve products. During and after lunch, the students were able to interact with current Edwards employees of varying backgrounds and positions, the majority of whom were UCR alumni, while enjoying a great view of the beautiful campus of Edwards in Irvine. Thank you to Edwards Lifesciences for this unique and unforgettable opportunity! "Going on the Edwards tour inspired me to keep on building my career and find out what truly inspires me and my passion." - Spencer Szu, Junior Bioengineering Student
Thank you to Abbott Laboratories for guiding us on a tour of the company. We hope all the attendees enjoyed getting to know what Abbott does, their history, and getting a view of their facilities and manufacturing line. Be sure to keep an eye out for updates on our next company tour next quarter!
On February 8, several BMES members were invited to tour Applied Medical, a leading medical device company. During the time spent at the facility, they were granted a tour of the laboratories and multiple product demonstrations. Our members were allowed a first look at the company's new and developing products. Following the tour, members were allowed a hands-on experience.
“The Applied Medical tour was a wonderful experience and really opened my eyes to the large scale in which medical device companies, like Applied Medical, cater to the world. Being just a student, it is easy to forget how important decisions made today impact those of tomorrow. Applied Medical was an extremely impressive company, and I hope to return one day” - Jaya Vengadesan, Professional Development Chair. |
